Forcing IE to run pages in either IE7, IE8 or IE9 standard using HTML

Posted on: January 12, 2012

IE is hell, and so is making pages run consistent on its versions. Every version in IE seem to have its own standard and making life of designers like a hell.

Good news, here is that you should try in HTML to force IE to run your pages in particular IE standard that works best in your view.

<!-- Enable IE9 Standards mode -->
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9" >
Or
<!-- Mimic Internet Explorer 7 -->
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" >

Or if supports more standards

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9; IE=8; IE=5" >

This should be declared into the head section of the page,

<html>
<head>
  <!-- Enable IE9 Standards mode -->
  <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9" >
  <title>My webpage</title>
</head>
<body>
  <p>Content goes here.</p>
</body>
</html>

Isn’t this great 🙂
